Immortal Realms: Vampire Wars is a strategy game developed by Palindrome and published by Kalypso which has a sort of Age of Wonders or Heroes of Might and Magic feel to it. It’s been infused with the vampire twist, along with the addition of a card mechanic twist, which helps to keep things interesting.

Story
The final game will have three separate campaign’s; Dracul, Nosfernus and Moroia, but as this is the beta we only have access to the first act of the Dracul campaign. It follows one of the vampire rulers of the Dracul clan, Cecilia, as she pushes back the humans who have so brazenly entered their domain.

Gameplay
The gameplay is very standard for this sort of strategy
game. Manage your army and resources, engage enemies to expand territories, and
following the quest objectives to progress the story. You also have access to
optional side objectives, which upon completion will help empower your units
and provide you with cards.
The card feature is the unique mechanic which separates this
game from others in this category. As you progress through battles and zones
you can acquire various cards that cost you either blood to use if it is
outside combat, which is your main form of resource in the main world map, or
if you are in combat you use mana to cast them to inflict damage or other
beneficial effects to swing the battle in your favour.
There also seems to be some sort of clan progression/upgrades among other fun features to further enhance the game’s depth, but sadly these were not available in the beta version.
Other features
Along beside the main campaigns you also have the option to
play skirmishes which as the name suggests allows you to have free battles
outside the standard story mode, as well as a sandbox mode which will allow
players to create their own campaigns. There will be no online option to allow
the sharing of your custom campaigns, but it should still be possible to share
with others via sending them the save files directly. This may not sit well
with all player types, but I would still say it’s better than not being able to
share them at all.
*Overall I am personally looking forward to playing this
game in its full glory. It’s been so many years since I’ve had a fun strategy
game of this nature to sink my teeth into…come on did you expected me to do
this without sliding in at least ONE vampire joke!? Don’t be absurd.
**Immortal Realms: Vampire Wars launches on PC later this
year. The game will also hit PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in the first quarter of
2020, with a Nintendo Switch release also scheduled for next year.
