It’s finally happened! I have finally come across a game that has beaten me! I have mentioned in previous reviews how I have to be incredibly selective with my time when choosing what games to review as I am a one man operation. This means I might not have time to complete every game I review but I do make sure I put a minimum of 20 hours into each review. I didn’t this time. I lost the will to love after three hours.
Another day another Balatro-like game. We are seeing quite a few of these popping up in the indie scene so expect to see a raft of AAA games copying suit in the next year or two. However, I hope they are more like Raccoin than Cloverpit.
The reason we have seen so many Baltaro-like games released recently is it is quite a simple and great game mechanic. This led the developers over at Panik Arcade to think “Hey, gamers love Balatro but why not make it better by adding what every gamer loves….RNG!?”
Yeah, you read that right. The whole game is just RNG. There is no skill to CloverPit. There is nothing you can do to affect the outcome. Even the charms you buy to increase your score have a 20% chance of working.
The entire game is a fruit machine and you have to pay back the debt amount within the allotted rounds. The debt goes up each round and you just got sit there and pull the arm on a fruit machine hoping you win. There is nothing you can do to affect or influence the machine. There is no skill in this game.
CloverPit is slop. Plain and simple. The DLC is out now and I have been given a review code but I couldn’t gather the willpower to play any longer and reach it. In fact I cannot even continue this review. If you are thinking of buying CloverPit please before you do call the Samaritans on 116 123.
